The name of the settlement used to be Németbóly, since 1950 it has been Bóly.

Archaeological finds prove that this place was inhabited as early as the Stone Age. The first written record dates back to 1093, in the time of Saint Ladislaus. The deed of donation mentions the settlement as Bolok, which was a church estate at that time.
